WASHINGTON (WUSA) -- Snow started falling here in Northwest DC on Friday afternoon.

Meteorologist Howard Bernstein said that "snow will overspread the area by 3 p.m." He also expected Friday evening's commute to be a little tricky as snow will stick to untreated surfaces.

A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY is in effect for the DC Metropolitan region until 9 p.m. Snow accumulations may be in the 1"-3" range, and more like 1" - 2" in the immediate Metro Area. The mountains in western MD will see higher amounts.
