TEMPLE HILLS, Md. (WUSA) --The elderly woman rescued from a house fire in Temple Hills died due to her injures on Saturday, officials say.
The Prince George's County Fire Department say 84-year-old Christine Miller Jones died at a Baltimore hospital after being in being in critical condition for days.
According to spokesperson Mark Brady, the woman was found without a pulse and not breathing on the first floor of her house in the 3500 block of Everest Drive, Sunday morning. She was removed and treated by paramedics, and remains in critical condition at the hospital.
Jones represented Prince George's County in the House of Delegates from 1982 to 1994. In her final year, she was the assistant floor leader for House Democrats.
Jones also had a 30-year career as a teacher and educator in the Prince George's County school system. She specialized in physical education.
Firefighters extinguished the fire in about 15 minutes, says Brady.
Brady says the fire may have started in a first floor bedroom but officials are still investigating the cause of the fire.
