WASHINGTON (WUSA) -- A former doctor of a DC jail pled guilty on Tuesday to a felony charge of sexually assaulting an inmate.
According to court documents, Lewis Jackson, 36, of Atlanta, Ga., pled guilty on Tuesday in DC Superior Court to one count of second-degree sexuals abuse. He will be sentenced later this year by the Honorable Herbert B. Dixon, Jr. Jackson faces a statutory maximum of 20 years in prison.
Court documents stated that Jackson was working at the D.C. Jail as a medical doctor when he sexually assaulted the victim, who was then an inmate, and went to Jackson for medical care. The victim immediately reported the matter to authorities at the D.C. Jail.
Officials say Jackson's indictment was secured in 2012 after the government found DNA evidence.Officials also say that weeks after the indictment in DC, Jackson was indicted for similiar crimes in federal court in Atlanta when he worked at the federal penitentiary and sexually abused three inmates in 2011.
According to court documents, Jackson will be sentenced in Atlanta on Feb. 7, 2013. His sentencing in the District of Columbia will be scheduled after those proceedings.
