WASHINGTON (WUSA 9) - In a game with almost a must-win feel, the Caps put forth their second straight lackluster effort in a 4-2 loss to Winnipeg.
With the loss, the Caps drop to 0-2-0. Adam Oates continues to search for his first win as Washington's bench boss.
Washington got on the board first with a Matt Hendricks goal off his skate. The play was reviewed, but the play was upheld giving the Capitals their first lead of the season.
It was all Winnipeg after that.
The Jets got power play goals in the first period by Evander Kane and Andrew Ladd to give Winnipeg a 2-1 lead at intermission. The Jets tacked on two even strength goals in the second to take a 4-1 into the locker room.
Troy Brouwer got a late third period goal to finish the scoring.
Matt Hendricks drew two five-minute fighting majors in addition to his first period goal, but it wasn't enough to propel the Capitals to a win.
Washington's ten-game win streak in home openers comes to an end with the loss.
