COLUMBIA, Md. (WUSA) -- A serious crash involving a tractor trailer has caused a significant traffic back-up in the northbound lanes of I-95 in Howard County.
Maryland State Police are on the scene where a car rammed the back end of a tractor trailer that had stopped on the shoulder of northbound I-95 just before Route 216 early Friday morning. Howard County Fire and Rescue crews responded to the scene and extricated the trapped driver, who was taken to Shock Trauma in Baltimore by ambulance. Police say he was in critical condition.
The crash closed all of the northbound lanes of I-95 in the area until three lanes were opened around 7:45 a.m.
Maryland State Police say the right lane/shoulder of northbound I-95 near Rt. 216 will remain closed while police conduct their investigation.
