WASHINGTON (WUSA) -- DC police say they have charged a man who is accused of giving a woman a ride home and then trying to sexually assault her inside her apartment.

Police say 20-year-old Maurice Spears of Northeast Washington was charged with Assault with Intent to Commit First Degree Sexual Assault on Friday.

The previous night, police say, after Spears drove a woman home to her apartment in the 100 block of Michigan Avenue, NE he was allowed into her apartment where he physically assaulted her. The woman called for police.
