WOODBRIDGE, Va. (WUSA) -- Friends, family and officers said a final farewell to Prince William County Police Officer Chris Yung, who died in the line of duty.

The 35-year-old father of three died on New Year's Eve while responding to a separate accident. A driver of a minivan turned in front of him and both vehicles burst into flames.

Thousands attended the funeral service held at Hylton Memorial Chapel on Gideon Drive in Woodbridge.

"He was a great father, husband, brother, son, and above all a great friend."

An emotional tribute for fallen officer Chris Yung.

"If you gave a few minutes of your time, you would've walked away with a friend forever."

Officer Dale Yung followed in his older brother's footsteps and became a Prince William County Police officer.

"He went 10-42 doing what he loved. He loved being a motor officer, he loved riding with you guys," said Dale Yung.

Cameras were not allowed inside the chapel but sound was piped outside for others to hear.

Dale Yung described how it brings him incredible sadness that his brother will not get to meet Dale's soon to be born son.

You could hear the pain for a brother taken to soon.

"I love you and I miss you dearly," said Johnny Stone, a friend of Young's.

He embraced Yung's wife Robin,  sitting in a patrol car. Her three grade school aged children were in the backseat, now without their father.

Stone aid, "I lost my wife with small children it's somewhat healing and difficult to realize another family is missing a parent."

Officers lined up in formation to give a final salut.

Brian Foster said, "The community that came out for a fallen friend and officer was great. I remember the big smile he had, I loved hanging around him. Everyone in high school knew him as 'Chonky.' He's going to be missed."

Officer Dale Yung said a final farewell to his brother. "I know he's looking down on us and giving us that trademark smile. You'll never be forgotten. You are a hero. Your legacy will continue, all your sisters and brothers in blue."

A private burial service will be held tomorrow in Albermarle County.
