WASHINGTON, D.C. (WUSA) - Why do we hate the Cowboys? Just them being the Dallas Cowboys is pretty much all it takes for me, but I do have the five top reasons we love to hate America's Team.
And Reason number five is that they're arrogant enough to call themselves America's Team. It was actually a narrator for NFL films who originally coined the term, but hey, why let the truth get in the way of our hating the Cowboys just that much more?
Reason number four: Cowboy fans. Smug and cocky. You know we've won five Super Bowls, they love to tell you. Dudes, you've had one playoff win in the last 15 years. Over the same period, the Redskins have two. Look it up.
Reason number three: and I'll admit this may be a jealousy thing: Cowboy quarterbacks. While the Redskins were changing QBs like underwear, Dallas fans has been treated to a whole string of great and nearly great guys with names like Staubach and Aikman, even Danny White and Tony Romo. It's just not fair. They made a deal with the devil or something. I just know it.
Reason number two: December 16th 1979. Final game of the season, Cowboys overcome a two touchdown deficit late in the 4th quarter to win 35-34, and keep the Redskins out of the playoffs. OOoh, that one stung and now it's payback time.
And that takes us to the number one reason we love to hate the Cowboys: Because no matter what's on the line, no matter what the won-loss record, when you beat those arrogant sonofaguns who think they're better than everybody, it is just. Plain. Sweet.
