HANOVER, Md. (WUSA) -- Maryland Live Casino in Hanover unlocked its doors on Thursday for the 205th and final time.

No, Maryland's largest casino is not closing for good. In fact, quite the opposite: the casino's operators say they'll never close again. Ever.

As a result of voters approving the gambling referendum on the Maryland ballot last month, casinos in the Free State are now free to stay open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year, and, starting today, that's exactly what Maryland Live intends to do.

Robert Norton, the president of Maryland Live, believes there will be an immediate market in Maryland for 24/7 gamblers.

"Every night we typically have to ask 300 to 500 guests to leave. Now, they'll be able to continue their entertainment experience," Norton said.
