BETHESDA, Md. (WUSA) -- Ever think that you would have to pay $7 bucks for a gallon of milk?

It could happen.

That's because we are so focused on the fiscal cliff, Congress isn't paying attention to the farm bill.

9News asked shoppers if they'd be willing to shell out the inflated prices.

The reactions:

"Heck no!"

"Too high, too high."

"I'd move to England."

"Yes, my children love milk. My children come first."

Beginning next year the cost for a gallon of milk could sky rocket, if Congress does not renew the Farm Bill, we could go off the dairy cliff.

The U.S. would revert back to a 64-year-old dairy policy. That means the government would have to buy milk at twice today's price. Right now milk, averages about $3.60 a gallon.

"I guess I'd have to until I buy a cow, I'm serious I drink about four gallons a week."

Other everyday shopping items could spike as well. One way to pass the farm bill is to attach it to the Fiscal Cliff.
