ALEXANDRIA, Va. (WUSA) -- A 20-year-old Alexandria woman is charged for setting fires at an apartment building in the city.
According to officials, Beatrice Thompson was arrested on Friday and charged for reportedly setting fires at a building in the 900 block of Gibbon Street. Thompson is charged with one count of burning or destroying dwelling house while occupied.
Alexandria firefighters responded to the 900 block of Gibbon Street at 12:56 a.m. after a caller reported a person setting fires. Firefighters encountered light smoke coming through the front door of an apartment
Fire investigators determined that several fires had been set inside an occupied apartment.
Officials say Thompson was stopped near the scene and later charged with setting the fires.
In total an estimated $15,000 in damage was caused to the apartment unit.
No one was injured, but one person had to be relocated by the property management company to another unit.
Fire officials continue to investigate the incident.
