BALTIMORE (AP) - An engineering study of the Intercounty Connector has concluded that the speed limit on the highway could safely be increased to 60 mph from 55.

The study adds that an analysis of crash data needs to be completed.

The Baltimore Sun reports that the accident review is expected to be completed in February. Then the Maryland Transportation Authority will make a decision.

The highway, which opened in November 2011, has had no fatal crashes and 20 single-vehicle accidents.

The 18.8-mile ICC, which runs between Gaithersburg and Laurel, is being built in segments. The last one-mile section from Interstate 95 to U.S. 1 is set to open by early 2014.
