RIDGELY, Md. (WUSA) -- A 58-year-old woman is charged with first degree murder after allegations that she killed her father on his 90th birthday, say Maryland State Police.
Janice C. Cohee is charged with first and second degree murder, first and second degree assault, manslaughter and reckless endangerment after calling 911 to say her father was dead on Monday. When deputies arrived at the home in the 12000 block of Ridgely Road in Ridgely, Md., they found Janice Cohee sitting outside, and her father, Arthur Cohee, in a chair in the kitchen. Maryland State Police say he had "obvious trauma to his head and neck."
Police say Janice Cohee told authorities that two men had broken into their home wanting money and had assaulted her father. She claimed she was hiding in another room.
Police, however, determined her statement to be false based on the evidence they found at the home and also with Janice Cohee. Some items have been taken to the Maryland State Police Forensic Sciences Division laboratory to determine if they were used in the assault.
The body of Arthur Cohee, who turned 90 years old Monday, was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for an autopsy to determine his cause and manner of death.
Janice Cohee is being held in jail without bond. A motive for Arthur Cohee's murder is unclear at this time but police say they continue to investigate his death.
