Owings Mills, MD (Sports Network) - Baltimore Ravens outside linebacker
Terrell Suggs figures to be a game-time decision for a second straight week
when the current AFC North leaders host the Denver Broncos this coming Sunday.
Suggs, the 2012 NFL Defensive Player of the Year, is making his way back from
a torn biceps he suffered during Baltimore's 23-20 home loss to Pittsburgh on
Dec. 2. The standout pass rusher was a full participant for a second straight
practice on Friday, though he's listed as questionable on the team's final
injury report.
The five-time Pro Bowl selection was also questionable coming into last
Sunday's matchup at Washington, but was ultimately held out as a precaution in
Baltimore's 31-28 overtime defeat to the Redskins.
"There was just too much on the line to chance it, especially with my arm,"
Suggs said on Thursday about the decision to deactivate him last week. "I
thought I would hinder the team by playing last week. It feels good this week,
and we'll just have to see come Sunday."
The status of inside linebacker Ray Lewis is also uncertain for Sunday's clash
against the AFC West champion Broncos. The esteemed defensive leader is
eligible to be activated from the injured reserve/designated to return list
this week and returned to practice prior to the Washington game.
Lewis has not played since incurring a triceps tear in a game against Dallas
in Week 6.
Baltimore had already ruled out fellow inside linebacker Jameel McClain, who
injured his neck against the Redskins, while counterpart Dannell Ellerbe is
considered questionable to come back from a sprained ankle that's sidelined
him the past two weeks.
Cornerback Jimmy Smith, who's missed Baltimore's last four contests after
undergoing groin surgery last month, is also questionable despite putting in a
third consecutive third practice on Friday.
Other notable Baltimore players given questionable tags for Sunday's tilt
include guard Marshal Yanda (ankle), safety Bernard Pollard (chest), fullback
Vonta Leach (ankle) and defensive end Arthur Jones (shoulder). Tight end Ed
Dickson is listed as doubtful and is likely to sit out a third straight week
due to a knee sprain.
