MILLERSVILLE, Md. (WUSA) -- Fire officials have identified the woman who died last week in a fire in the Gambrills area of Anne Arundel County.
Authorities say 92-year-old Blanche Anderson was found on the floor of the home, rescued by firefighters but later pronounced dead at the scene. A 15-year-old boy was able to escape without injury before firefighters arrived there.
According to authorities, Anne Arundel County firefighters were dispatched to the 1300 block of Tenbrook Road at approximately 5:30 p.m. They saw smoke and fire coming from a home in a two story, duplex-style building.
Crews were able to get into the home and found Anderson on the first floor. She was unconscious and unresponsive. They then moved her out of the building and took her to paramedics. The paramedics determined she had suffered fatal injuries and pronounced her dead.
Her death marks the sixth fire death in the county in 2012.
Authorities say a neighbor heard calls for help coming from another resident of the home. That resident, a 15-year-old boy, was forced to escape out of a second floor window because of heavy smoke. He was able to make it out safely.
In 30 minutes, firefighters were able to bring the fire under control.
The fire caused an estimated $150,000 in damages, according to authorities.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
