COLUMBIA, Md. (WUSA) - A second floor fire damaged two apartment units, making them uninhabitable and displacing four people on Wednesday, according to Howard County fire officials.
Firefighters responded to a call just after 10 a.m. reporting a fire in the 7600 block of Woodpark Drive.
A maintenance worker found the fire after responding to a neighbor's report of water leaking into her apartment. Firefighters found heavy smoke coming from a second floor unit, and found a small fire being trolled by the automatic sprinkler system.
Two extensively damaged apartments were unihabitable, and three others sustained minor water damage. The American Red Cross has been requested to assist with the displacement of two adults, two children and a family pet. No injuries were reported and fire investigators are working to determine the cause.
