ROCKVILLE, Md. (WUSA) -- It can cost you thousands to replace a stolen catalytic converter.

Thieves with battery-operated power saws can slice one from under you car in moments. They get as little as $45 to as much as a couple of hundred dollars for the precious metals inside.

So how quickly can a pro remove one? We went to Brookville Automotive and the crew was done in amazing little time. Watch the video to see how fast.

Some muffler shops are now welding re-bar cages or chains around the most expensive of catalytic converters to foil the thieves. One shop in Stockton, Ca. said they were building the cages for about $100.
