(WUSA) -- The origins of the world's most expensive coffee might surprise you.

It derives from Thai elephant poop!

At an elephant camp in Golden Triangle, Thailand coffee beans are naturally refined by Thai elephants. The beans are feed to the elephants which take about 15 to 30 hours to digest and are later picked from the poop ( a.k.a dung), washed and roasted.

About 10,000 beans have to be picked in order to produce 1 kilogram (2.2 pounds) of roasted coffee and the going rate is not cheap! At $1,100 per kg or $500 per pound, the cost per serving of this Black Ivory Coffee is $50 -- making it the world's priciest coffee.
