Arrest warrant has been issued for Javon Foster wanted in the fatal Metro shooting.
WASHINGTON (WUSA) - D.C. Police have issued an arrest warrant for the suspect responsible for fatally shooting a mother and injuring her child.
Javon Foster is believed to be the boyfriend of the victim, identified as 20-year-old Selina Brown of Northeast D.C.
On Sunday at about 5:30 p.m., Brown was getting on a bus with her young daughter near the intersection of 18th Street and Minnesota Avenue in southeast Washington when a man came up behind them and opened fire, according to D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier.
Chief Lanier says the woman, was hit several times by bullets and pronounced dead on the bus. Her 2-year-old daughter was wounded and rushed to a nearby hospital, she is expected to survive.
Foster, 27, is also believed to be the father of the toddler.
Long-time neighborhood residents said they were absolutely stunned by the sickening spasm of violence.
Jackie Jeter, the head of the bus drivers union, renewed her call for increased security on city buses. "We have been discussing and talking about violence on the streets and how it's getting worse, and how we're put in danger all the time and it seems to have fallen on deaf ears," Jeter said.
