WASHINGTON (WUSA) -- Firefighters responded to the scene of a fire on Webster Street NW in D.C. on Wednesday morning and when they put out the blaze, they found a man dead under a couch in one of the rooms.
D.C. Fire authorities tweeted that there was a fire on the second floor of a building at 333 Webster St. NW. When firefighters went to look for any extension of the fire, they found the man.
One official said that firefighters encountered many belongings while trying to get into the building and the man appeared to be a hoarder of clothes and furniture. Neighbors said the person who lived there was "a pack-rat" and the last thing they heard from him was that he was going to cook a turkey. Fire officials are looking into the possibility that he was cooking before the fire.
We are waiting to hear more details and will have them here shortly.
