(WUSA) -- A Loudoun County Sheriff's Office authorities say a pedestrian who was struck on Route 28 at Sterling Boulevard in Loudoun County just after 8 a.m. Wednesday stepped in front of a tractor trailer on purpose. Authorities say the man was trying to take his own life.
The man suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to a hospital.
Both southbound and northbound lanes were closed for the transport, but reopened at approximately 9:15 a.m.
Authorities continue to investigate the incdient.
