LA PLATA, Md. (WUSA) -- Charles County authorities say that a man who died Wednesday night in an accident on Hawthorne Road may have been intoxicated and speeding.
Thirty-one-year-old Michael Leonard Ford of La Plata was driving eastbound on Hawthorne Road shortly before 8:30 p.m. Wednesday when he lost control of his car and hit another vehicle that was traveling westbound. Authorities say that Ford died at the scene after failing to drive right of center. They also believe he was under the influence of alcohol and speeding at the time of the crash.
The driver in the car hit by Ford's car, 39-year-old Nicole Desiree Gaines of Indian Head, received non life-threatening injuries and was taken to Prince George's Shock Trauma. The passenger in her car, a juvenile, was also taken to Shock Trauma with non life-threatening injuries.
The accident is still under investigation.
