WASHINGTON (WUSA) -- A police officer was stabbed and a suspect shot in the 3500 block of 17th St NE in Washington, D.C. on Friday morning.
Metropolitan Police Department Police Chief Cathy Lanier says officers arrived at the location after 911 call reports about a domestic assault just before 7 Friday morning. According to Lanier, a man attacked officers from behind as they approached the home. One officer received multiple lacerations to the head, neck and hands. Lanier says the officer then engaged the suspect and fired his weapon.
One shot struck and killed the attacker, says Lanier.
The injured officer suffered serious, but non-life threatening injuries. the officer was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Police say the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.
Lanier says the initial domestic assault involved a grandfather and grandson. The grandfather was also stabbed, according to Lanier. He was taken to a hospital for treatment. His condition is unknown at this time.
The 3500 block of 17th Street, NE - Newton Street NE is closed during the police investigation.
