ALEXANDRIA (WUSA) - Residents are asked to call Alexandria City's storm hotline to report non-emergency issues related to Hurricane Sandy at 703.746.HELP (4357).

Officals say residents should stay indoors as Hurricane Sandy begins to move through our region with a high wind and flood watch warning now in effect for Alexandria through Tuesday evening.

To report power outages due to heavy rain and wind, call Dominion Virginia Power at 866.DOM.HELP (866.366.4357).

Officials would like to remind citizens that Alexandria government facilities, public schools, courts, non-emergency services and public transportation services are all closed or cancelled until further notice.

Additionally, all trash collection services will be suspended on Monday as the City has activated its Emergency Operations Center.

Storm updates and information on cancellations and closings relating to the City of Alexandria are available here.
