(WUSA) --  The guitar played by the likes of Jimi Hendrix, the Beach Boys, Nirvana, the Pixies and the Red Hot Chili Peppers is turning 50, says Fender.

The Fender Jaguar electric guitar was unveiled in 1962 and was intended to be Leo Fender's top model. It originally sold for $375.50.

It's not as famous as the Telecaster, the Stratocaster or the Jazzmaster but still manages to be a favorite of some musicians of today.
