SPOTSYLVANIA, Va. (WUSA) - The victim of an October 17 train accident has been identified, according to the Virginia Medical Examiners Office.
Charles Hollowell, 74, of Spotsylvania, was struck by a train at about 4 p.m. on Wednesday on the tracks 300 yards north of the grade crossing on Mine Road.
Investigators have determined that Hollowell was crossing at a bend in the tracks and was unaware of the approaching train.
The train's engineer was able to sound his horn and apply the train's emergency brakes before striking the victim.
