WASHINGTON (WUSA) - A Washington, D.C. man was sentenced to 23 ½ in prison Thursday on burglary and firearms charges from two incidents in which posed as a maintenance man and entered apartments occupied by residents in their 90s before stealing their cash.

Tony Ford, 48, also known as Anthony Ford, pled guilty this past August in D.C. Superior Court. The first incident occurred on June 19 when Ford went to an apartment building for senior citizens located in the 1400 block of Florida Avenue NE.  Ford reportedly knocked on the door of an apartment, acted as the maintenance man, and said he was checking for leaks.  The victim opened the door and let Ford in.  Ford then subsequently hit the victim several times in the mouth.  The victim screamed and Ford told her to "shut up" or he was going to kill her.  Ford took $23 from the victim and fled.  The victim sustained minor injuries.

The second incident took place one week later on June 26.  Ford went to another apartment building for senior citizens located in the 1200 block of G Street SE.  He announced himself as a maintenance man again, and again said he was there to check for leaks.  Once inside the apartment, Ford grabbed the victim and slammed him down onto his bed.  Ford then took $133 dollars.  Ford then tied up the victim before leaving the apartment.  A neighbor heard the victim yelling a few hours later and freed the victim.  The victim was taken to the hospital and treated for swelling, abrasions, and bruising.

Surveillance footage from one of the burglaries was shown on local TV and authorities asked the public for help finding the suspect.  One individual was told by Ford that he would kill someone who he thought might contact the police.  Ford was armed with a gun at the time.  The individual contacted the police and Ford was arrested on June 28.
