Pedestrian Dies After Being Hit By Dump Truck In Fairfax, Va.

FAIRFAX, Va. (WUSA) -- A man is dead after being hit by a dump truck, police said.

On Thursday, at about 1:50 a.m. a 64-year-old man was driving a 2002 Kenworth dump truck on the right lane of Richmond Highway heading northbound when a man crossed his path.

The driver tried to avoid hitting the man on the unlit road but eventually struck him. The man immediately called stopped the dump truck and called police.

The pedestrian was was taken to Inova Fairfax Hospital where he was pronounced dead. His name will not be released until next of kin are notified.

Fairfax police say speed and alcohol were not a factor. Police are still investigating the accident.
