ALEXANDRIA, Va. (WUSA) -- Fairfax County Police are investigating an overnight collision on Route 1 that killed a pedestrian.
Police officials say a vehicle struck a pedestrian in the northbound lanes of Route 1 at Huntington Avenue shortly before 2:00 Thursday morning. Police and rescue units responded to the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital where the individual later died.
Right now police are not releasing any detailed information on the victim.
The driver of the striking vehicle remained at the scene.
The northbound lanes of Route 1 where shut down for a few hours while an accident reconstruction unit investigated the scene. All lanes reopened around 4:50 a.m.
