WASHINGTON (WUSA) -- WMC-TV in Memphis reports that B.B. Cunningham, a member of Jerry Lee Lewis' band, was shot and killed on Sunday. He was found dead with a 16-year-old boy.
Witnesses heard shots at the Cherry Crest Apartments in East Memphis. Police later found 70-year-old Cunningham and the teen, who was also a musician.
A woman at the scene told WMC that she was the daughter-in-law of Cunningham and confirmed that he had been shot. She told news crews Cunningham was working as a security guard at night.
According to reports, Cunningham heard gunshots and went to investigate the sound.
The Associated Press and The Commercial Appeal report that 22-year-old Dock Britt has been charged with first degree murder and criminal attempted first-degree murder (http://bit.ly/OBrwAe).
Cunningham was a member of The Hombres in the 1960s. He co- wrote the group's song "Let It Out, Let it All Hang Out."
