WASHINGTON (AP) -- The District of Columbia is going to spend $30 million renovating playgrounds throughout the city.
The mayor's office says the renovations announced Friday are the largest playground reconstruction in the city's history. Of the 78 playgrounds in the city, 32 will get improvements.
City officials said about half of the cost of the improvements are coming from cost savings and unspent funds from the city's budget in the 2012 fiscal year. The improvements are supposed to be finished by September 2013.
