WASHINGTON (AP) - A man has been found guilty of a 1998 slaying in Washington in which a bystander was shot in the face.
Thirty-six-year-old Cedrick Shuler was convicted of second-degree murder Thursday in the killing of 26-year-old Renee LaShawn Best. He faces 20 years to life in prison at sentencing Dec. 14.
According to government evidence, Shuler killed Best when she was standing next to a man Shuler believed had killed another man earlier on Feb. 22, 1998.
After a renewed investigation into the slaying, Shuler was charged in July 2011.
