WASHINGTON (AP) - Tens of thousands of baseball fans are expected to flood the Metro transit system and roads after the first Washington Nationals playoff game in Washington.
The Nationals are set to play the St. Louis Cardinals at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Nationals Park in southeast Washington. That means the fans will begin heading home as the evening commute begins.
Metro will be putting all available cars into service to accommodate the crowds. Additional green line trains will also travel between the Mount Vernon and Anacostia stations.
On the roads, traffic control officers and school crossing guards will guide drivers and pedestrians. The D.C. Department of Transportation plans to guide traffic onto freeways as quickly as possible.
