REISTERSTOWN, MD - A Baltimore police motorcycle officer was injured Tuesday morning while traveling on Interstate 795.  The officer was heading to training in Sykesville, Md..

The injured officer has been transported to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center.  The preliminary information says the officer's injuries are non-life threatening.

Around 8:18 a.m. Tuesday the officer was headed northbound on Interstate 795 near Owings Mills Boulevard.  The officer's motorcycle hit the metal part that connects the road and the overpass, which made the motorcycle start to swing back and forth.

In an attempt to avoid hitting other vehicles, the officer "laid the motorcycle on its side, causing the motorcycle to slide on the wet pavement."

Maryland State troopers are handling the accident investigation.  Additionally, the Baltimore Police Department says they will be conducting their own investigation.
