New York, NY (Sports Network) - Baltimore Ravens safety Ed Reed was one of
nine players fined by the NFL on Friday for actions in Week 3.
Reed was given a $21,000 penalty for his hit on New England wide receiver
Deion Branch. Reed was penalized 15 yards for unnecessary roughness on the
play and suffered the further discipline for "striking a defenseless player in
the head or neck area."
Detroit linebacker Stephen Tulloch was also hit with a $21,000 fine for a
helmet-to-helmet hit on Tennessee tight end Craig Stevens.
Philadelphia defensive end Jason Babin and cornerback Dominque Rodgers-
Cromartie were fined $15,750 and $7,875, respectively. Babin was charged with
a horse-collar tackle and Rodgers-Cromartie for unnecessarily striking an
opponent in a loss at Arizona.
Tennessee defensive end Scott Solomon and Denver linebacker Von Miller were
each fined $15,750 for hits on quarterbacks, while Cincinnati cornerback
Terence Newman was fined $10,000 for hitting a quarterback out of bounds.
Cincinnati cornerback Adam Jones was hit for $15,750 for a horse-collar tackle
while Seattle cornerback Brandon Browner got a $7,875 fine for a cheap-shot
takedown.
