BALTIMORE (WUSA) -- Baltimore Ravens WR Torrey Smith lost his younger brother Sunday morning in a motorcycle accident.
Tevin Chris Jones, 19, was killed in Westmoreland County in the Montross area while traveling east on Route 672 Chatham Lane. According to Virginia State Police, Jones was riding in a 2006 Yamaha YZF-R1 motorcycle when he ran off the right side of the road and hit a utility pole. He died at the scene.
Police say Jones was wearing a helmet and alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
At about 1 a.m. Smith was notified of the accident at the Ravens' downtown Baltimore team hotel and immediately left to join his family.
"This is devastatingly sad, sad news. Torrey and his family are a close, special family, and our hearts and thoughts reach out to all of them," Head coach John Harbaugh said.
He added, "Our hearts ache today. We pray for Tevin, his mother, Torrey and the rest of the family. God bless Tevin."
Smith wrote on his twitter page this morning, "I can't believe my little brother is gone...be thankful for your loved ones and tell them you love them...this is the hardest thing ever."
Coach Harbugh says he is not sure if Torrey will play against the Patriots tonight and understands Smith's priority at the moment is being with his family.
Smith is one of seven children of Monica Chante Jenkins. Virginia State Police are still investigating the accident.
