STERLING, Va. (WUSA) - More than 12 pounds of cocaine was concealed inside seven plastic jars filled with honey and cream, carried by two men to Dulles International Airport, according to Customs and Border Protection officers.
The two Guatemalan men, traveling as couriers on business, arrived separately on different airlines from different cities and about three hours apart.
Couriers' packages are routinely examined to be certain that the items comply with customs, agriculture and other laws. CBP officers discovered seven plastic jars - three from one courier, four from the other - all with a second wall lining.
Inside officers found a white, powdery substance that field-tested positive for cocaine. The combined weight of plastic jars and cocaine measured about 12 pounds, 10 ounces.
