WASHINGTON, D.C. (WUSA) - When I heard Mitt Romney verbally crush President Obama's supporters as "victims" who think they are entitled to government handouts, And that his job, quote "is not to worry about those people," my first thoughts were more personal than political--as in  "Dude...that's a little harsh"

I mean, all along, people who know Romney say he's a kind, decent man if you get to know him, even if he comes off a bit stiff in public. Okay, he gets the benefit of the doubt.

But that night in front of the high rollers, that was the Romney from Bain Capital talking, as if perhaps to stockholders interested in nothing but the bottom line, as in The 47 percent of government moochers who'll never vote for me versus the 53 percent of hardworking Americans who just might.

Romney spent Tuesday defending the politics of that statement. But to me the real issue is, once again, the personal. Pollsters talk about President Obama's greater likability, but what that really boils down to is trust., as in who's got your back if you slip into that 47 percent.

And let's be real: political calculations are one thing. but now that we've seen CEO Romney, it's that personal connection many voters look for that may be out of reach.
