WASHINGTON (WUSA) -- Monday, National Zoo staff and anyone watching the Panda Cam at approximately 8:35 p.m. got a peek at the new panda cub.
The cub was born on Sunday night to giant panda Mei Xiang but wasn't seen until the next day. On the camera, you could see Mei Xiang cradle her cub and then pick it up in her mouth, which zoo staff say is normal. The cub then squirmed and made a sound.
