(WUSA) -- Fairfax County Police say thousands of people may be the victims of thieves who put a skimmer on an ATM at the Inova Fairfax Hospital Cardiac Care Center. They say officers removed the skimmer from the machine in the lobby near the gift shop on Wednesday. Police say the skimmer could have been there since late August.
Detectives say started to receive complaints about cards being used to buy groceries and coffee, and to get money from other ATM machines. One person finally saw the skimming device on the machine and told hospital security. Police were then notified on Wednesday and they took the skimmer off.
Currently, police are investigating four cases but think there could be more. If you have used the machine from late August through Wednesday, please look at your bank statement for any unauthorized transactions. If you see something unusual, call your bank and then police at 703-691-2131.
No suspects have been arrested at this time.
