GAITHERSBURG, Md. (WUSA) - Police are investigating a collision on Great Seneca Highway that killed a motorcyclist on Monday.
At approximately 1:42 p.m., police officers and fire/rescue personnel responded to the intersection of Great Seneca Highway and Longdraft Road for a report of a personal injury collision involving a motorcycle.
Police report that a 2001 Suzuki SV650s motorcycle was traveling northbound on Great Seneca Highway approaching Longdraft Road.
A 1998 BMW 528i was traveling southbound on Great Seneca Highway and tried to make a left turn on to Longdraft Road in front of the motorcycle.
The motorcycle collided with the passenger side door of the BMW, and the motorcyclist was thrown from the motorcycle.
An off-duty Montgomery County police officer arrived just after the accident and administered first aid to the motorcyclist, with the help of a citizen at the scene. The motorcyclist was taken to Shady Grove Hospital where he died.
The motorcyclist is identified as Michael George Balcom, 24, of the 13200 block of Wonderland Way in Germantown. The driver of the BMW is identified as Toney Williams Moses, 67, of the 16900 block of Horn Point Drive in Gaithersburg.
The collision is being investigated. Police ask anyone who witnessed the accident to contact the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 301-840-2435. Callers may remain anonymous.
