WASHINGTON (WUSA) -- The Washington Examiner reports that a D.C. police captain was charged with second degree assault for allegedly choking his wife during a fight.

A criminal complaint was filed against 48-year-old Lamar Farren West of Upper Marlboro, Md. on Monday.

He has a court date in November, according to court records.

According to The Examiner, West got into an argument in the backseat of an SUV and then it became a physical fight. At one point, West allegedly choked his wife. The car was stopped and a passenger got out, opened the back door and pulled West off of his wife. Court documents, say the Examiner, indicate that the passenger and West fought and the passenger was able to kick West's service weapon under the car before holding him on the ground. Police arrived and west was taken into custody.

He was  treated for his injuries and released, reports the Examiner. West was then booked before being released on $10,000 bond.
