SEVERN, Md. (WUSA) -- A father faces multiple charges after his 5-year-old son accidentally took methadone and was taken to the hospital on Tuesday night in Severn, Md., say Anne Arundel County Police.

Police say someone called from a home at approximately 8:10 p.m. and reported that a 5-year-old child wasn't breathing after accidentally taking methadone. The caller reportedly indicated that CPR was being performed on the child.

Emergency medical personnel were able to revive the boy and then take him to Baltimore Washington Medical Center.

Officers spoke to the boy's father, 28-year-old Paul Kristopher Brooks, who gave them a bottle of pink liquid. Police say further investigation revealed the methadone was bought illegally and there were other illegal drugs in the home.

According to police, the execution of a search and seizure warrant at the home produced suspect cocaine, marijuana, heroin, methamphetamine, more methadone, a loaded .357 Magnum and a .22 caliber rifle.

Brooks is now charged with Possession with the Intent to Distribute Cocaine, Marijuana, Heroin and Methamphetamine, Possession of Methadone, Cocaine, Marijuana, Heroin and Methamphetamine, two counts of Possession of a Firearm in Commission of a Drug Trafficking Crime and one count of Firearm Accessible to a Minor.

Police say charges are pending against another person. "An investigation is ongoing into possible child neglect charges," according to police.
