(WUSA) -- People who open a new EZ Pass account in Virginia this month will get a chance to ride the new 495 Express Lanes for free early next year.
The first 10,000 people who open a new Virginia EZ Pass or EZ Pass Flex account in September will get two weeks of free rides along the high occupancy toll lanes. The free rides will be from January 7 to January 20, 2013.
TEST DRIVE: Cars try out the new 495 Express Lanes
The 495 Express Lanes are new lanes along the Beltway between the Springfield Interchange and the Dulles Toll Road. Solo drivers will pay a fee to drive in the lanes. The fee will be based on the congestion level in the regular lanes. Carpools with three or more people will be able to ride in the lanes for free with a new EZ Pass Flex transponder.
The deal is only open to people who open a new account through EZPassVA.com through September 30, 2012. Account holders must be a resident of Arlington County, Fairfax County, Prince William County, or Loudoun County in Virginia; Montgomery County, Prince George's County, Frederick County, or Charles County in Maryland; or the District of Columbia.
