Nana Akoanor, charged with felony child neglect and driving under the influence in Prince William County
DUMFRIES, Va. (WUSA) -- Police officers called to the scene of a possible crash found an infant in the backseat and later discovered the supposed driver to be under the influence of alcohol, report Prince William County police.
The incident happened on Monday at approximately 1:30 a.m. Police arrived in the area of Periscope Pl and Hour Glass Dr in Dumfries and found a car, still running and without a driver, in the middle of the road. They determined there was no crash, but there was an 8-month-old girl in a child's seat in the backseat of the vehicle.
Police say witnesses reported seeing a male running from the area. Officers were able to identify the driver of the vehicle, who is a family member of the girl.
Nana Kwabena Akoanor II, was found at a home on Hour Glass Drive and was allegedly intoxicated.
After an investigation, Akoanor was arrested and the child was released to other family members. The girl was unharmed, say police.
Akoanor was charged with felony child neglect and driving under the influence. Akoanor is being held without bond.
