BALTIMORE (WUSA) -- BWI Airport had a record high number of travelers with 2,222,329 passengers in July, announced Maryland Governor Martin O'Malley.

That number is up by 0.8 percent compared the record set in July 2011 with a total of 2,205,035 passengers.

"This new record represents the steady growth and success that BWI Marshall has experienced," said Governor O'Malley. "The Airport is an important resource that supports jobs, transportation and tourism throughout the region. We will continue working hard to meet the needs of travelers throughout Maryland, the National Capital region, and the world."

But this is not the first time BWI breaks its own record.

Last month, officials reported an increased of 2.9 percent compared to June 2011, setting a new record and making it the second busiest month in the history of BWI.
