Police Investigate Multiple Cab Robberies

WASHINGTON,D.C. (WUSA) - MPD is investigating a series of cab robberies that appear to be related.

On August 29 at approximately 1:25 a.m., a cab driver dropped off a passenger at 3rd and Rhode Island Avenue, NE where the passenger then robbed the cab driver of a phone and an unknown amount of casgh, fleeing towards Bryant Street, NE.

The same date at approximately 10:32 pm, a cab driver dropped off a passenger in the 600 block of Rhode Island Avenue, NE. The  passenger then robbed the cab driver of a phone and an ear piece before fleeing north on the Metropolitan Bike Trail.

On August 30, 2012 at approximately 12:55 a.m. a passenger in a cab tried to rob the cab driver while he was driving to the intersection of 3rd and Evarts Street. The cab driver continued to drive, then slowed the car, and the suspect exited the cab without taking anything, and fled north on 3rd Street, NE.

The suspect in these cases is described as a thin black male, approximately 5'5" in height, weighing approximately 120 lbs, with a dark complexion.

Anyone with information about these incidents or the suspect, or who sees the suspect, should take no action, but should immediately call police at 202-727-9099.
