FEDERAL WAY, Wash. (CBS/AP) - Authorities have arrested a Washington state man and are sweeping his apartment complex for explosives after emailed threats were made against President Obama.
Emily Langlie, a spokeswoman for the Seattle U.S. attorney's office, said 31-year-old Anton Caluori was armed but was taken into custody without incident in the south suburb of Federal Way on Tuesday afternoon. He was scheduled to appear in federal court Wednesday.
A law enforcement official told CBS News Caluori will be charged with making threats against the president and with assault against a federal agent. The suspect allegedly emailed a threat that was received by the FBI. The FBI, in turn, contacted the U.S. Secret Service.
When Secret Service agents went to the man's apartment in Federal Way, he "charged at them" at the front door carrying a shotgun, some ammunition, and another weapon believed to be a pistol.
No one was hurt and he was taken into custody. But, as he was being arrested, Caluori allegedly made remarks to the authorities suggesting there could be explosives in the apartment, forcing police to search the building.
Officials confiscated two weapons from the man at the time of his arrest, reports CBS affiliate KIRO-TV in Seattle. Agents are searching the apartment for any additional weapons and evidence.
Langlie said the threats had been sent to a general government email address.
