WASHINGTON (WUSA) - A D.C. husband and father who underwent brain surgery and fell into a coma after an assault in Capitol Hill remains in critical condition at Washington Hospital Center, say police, who say they are following a number of leads.
Scott Broom reports as of Monday, there is now a rough timeline -- outlined in a police report --- and an indication that the victim's credit card may have been used after this disturbing attack.
Friends of the family say Thomas Maslin, 29, went to a Nationals game Friday evening and later went for a drink in Capitol Hill. The next morning, police found the 29-year-old unconscious on the front porch of a house, six blocks from his residence near Eastern Market.
Maslin's wife works at Brent Elementary School. The principal shared his thoughts and prayers on the school's website:
"Abby has asked that everybody pray for her and TC, it is hour by hour now. We as a Brent Family must come together and support their family in whatever way you can. "
Homicide detectives are investigating, which is routine in serious assaults.
The community around Eastern Market has recently seen an increase in robberies and assaults, according to Ivan Frishberg, Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner (ANC).
To date there have been six assaults in the area, compared to four during the same time last year, Frishberg added.
Police have reported no homicides this year in the patrol area.
