THE CAMPAIGN TRAIL (WUSA) --- Politicians have mothers, too, even if some of those mothers may be loathe to admit it. And politicians have learned the lessons their mothers taught them as kids, one in particular: There is no second chance for a first impression.
Because so many Americans voters last week had formed no impression whatsoever of Wisconsin Congressman Paul Ryan, Mitt Romney's choice as a running mate, politicians from both sides spent much of Monday trying to turn their own impressions into the first impression those voters would remember.
President Obama called Ryan a good man whose vision for America is wrong.
Mitt Romney spent much of the day in Florida, trying to assure retirees that Ryan's plans to change Medicare would not hurt them in the least.
